The Green Flag Award has received a record number of applications for the 2017 UK Awards. A total of 1851 parks and green spaces will now be judged over the coming months with results announced on the 18th July during Love Parks Week.
The scheme has also received applications from Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Spain and Turkey, with flags already flying this year in Australia, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager said; It's fantastic to see the number of application for the Award increase again this year. It's now more important than ever that people have access to quality parks and green spaces to ensure we can all lead healthy lives.
Staff at Keep Britain Tidy celebrated the news with a visit to Award winning Alexandra Park in Wigan.
