Warrenpoint Municipal Park

Warenpoint Park is one of a small number a very well preserved Edwardian parks, it is a focal point for many local events and is historically significant as an historic park in Northern Ireland
Warrenpoint Park, close to the centre of the town has a magnificent array of flowers and shrubs and the fine Edwardian bandstand is the focus for popular summer band concerts. Facilities include a multi use games area, pavilion, children’s play area and public toilets.
Opened in 1907, the Park is listed on the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest Northern Ireland (D-157).
In 2018 the Park underwent major restoration work, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council (NMDDC). This work safeguarded the Park’s many historic features for future generations.
The Park is used by both the local community and visiting tourists and is primarily used as it was when first opened. Visitors participate in music and cultural events, attend fairs, play tennis, play in the play area and enjoy the gardens by walking or sitting in the park. All of these activities were part of the culture of the users when it was originally opened. While most of the visitors to the Park use it recreationally, it is also a site for learning in the District with many user groups visiting to gain information on history, heritage and horticulture.
