Slieve Gullion Forest Park

Slieve Gullion has become a lot more accessible and fun thanks to projects led by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. These were the creation of an 'Adventure Play Park' and 'Fionn's Giant Adventure Trail' at the site and the restoration of the footpaths using natural methods. This has led to a high quality tourism infrastructure for the sub region, which meets the needs of the local community and tourists alike.
To achieve a high-quality provision, the council went into partnership with several statutory and voluntary agencies. The Adventure Play Park was designed to sit in the landscape of the mountain and the equipment was fitted into the surroundings rather than the other way around, providing an inclusive facility for the enjoyment of individuals and family members of all ages. Fionn's Giant Adventure is a innovative magical living storybook, taking visitors on an unforgettable trail of fairy houses and art features inspired by the rich tapestry of local legend, mythical folklore and geology. It has been upgraded with enhanced features and an interactive App which enables a self-guided tour of the Trail.
