Dock Park was upgraded in 2013/ 2014 and is now a desirable venue again. Our riverside park has a rich and varied history which has been made accessible to park users through interpretation boards and the conservation of historic features.
The park's centre-piece is the nineteenth century bandstand which is being restored to its former glory with the addition of new lighting and electrical points so that modern equipment can be used for events and activities. As well as the upgraded bandstand, the old bowling pavilion has been refurbished to be used for the park's toilet facilities and as the new information hub. The new play equipment is more suitable for all ages and abilities, with bright and appealing colours; all of which surrounds the historical maze, which has been in place since the 1970's. A Peter Pan themed mini golf area has been designed by a local artist and provides links with other projects in Dumfries. The new Kelly's Viewpoint has been built in the site where Kelly's Shelter used to stand. The entrances and pathways have been enhanced, providing improvements to the park's disjointed layout.
The Friends of Dock Park is made up of a group of passionate volunteers who are involved in events and activities in the park, as well as being involved in decision making.
Along with the Friends group, a wide variety of community groups and local businesses hold successful activities and events in Dock Park.
