Harrison Park

Harrison Park is an important community park in the west of Edinburgh. The achievement of obtaining a Green Flag in 2007, was a great boost to the Parks staff and local community. This success is a reflection of the establishment of a Friends group and recent developments in the park. The achievement of Green Flag status has been publicised in local press and on the Councils website. Recommendations from both the site and desk assessments have been taken on board. Key examples include an ecological assessment of the park, with recommendations for wildlife enhancement; presentation and structure of management plan updated; projects with local schools undertaken; and the Friends Group has obtained a Parks and Gardens Community Grant to carryout projects highlighted by Green Flag judges and ecological survey (working with local school to plant trees and wildflowers). The Council continues to promote the park and it will be a venue for the Edinburgh Friends of Parks Networking meeting in the spring 2008.
