Slessor Gardens and Waterfront Place
Slessor Gardens and Waterfront Place are located at the heart of Dundee’s central waterfront overlooking the Firth of Tay. The park is part of the £1billion transformation of Dundee’s waterfront which is also home to the award-winning V&A Museum of Design Dundee.
Slessor Gardens is a multi-functional space comprising a central lawn surrounded by smaller, more intimate ‘pocket gardens’. As well as being a space to relax in, the park is also a popular venue for events ranging from pop concerts to Christmas markets and peaceful yoga sessions. Waterfront Place fronts the River Tay and includes an Active Travel Hub, Urban Beach and a life sized Whale sculpture with interactive play equipment.
The ‘pocket gardens’ are themed to reflect Dundee past and present, eight reflect historic global connections, key local connections and industries. Others include a sensory garden, the V&A Dundee community garden and others representing the geography, Dundee and exploration . The ‘Discovery Walk’ and ‘Maritime Trail’ also provide another insight into Dundee’s rich and varied history.
Located a short walk from Dundee’s railway station and main bus routes with Dundee’s bus station close by in the city centre. The National Cycle Network passes the park and the Dundee Cycle Hub is located on site. The park is fully accessible with level paving throughout, dropped kerb edging and traffic controlled pedestrian crossings accessing the site.
City centre amenities are only a few minutes away on foot, including restaurants, cafes, retail, hotels and leisure attractions such as the V&A Dundee, RRS Discovery, The McManus Galleries and HMS Frigate Unicorn.
