La Asociación Nacional de Parques y Recreación de México appointed to deliver Green Flag Award in Mexico

01 August 2019

La Asociación Nacional de Parques y Recreación de México (ANPR México) have signed an agreement with Keep Britain Tidy (KBT) for the delivery of the International Green Flag Award for parks and green spaces in Mexico.

This follows the recent achievement by Parque Fundidora in Monterrey and Parque La Mexicana in Santa Fe, Mexico City becoming the very first parks in Mexico to achieve the coveted international award.

ANPR México is spearheading the revitalisation of parks and green spaces in Mexico, with a clear mission to improve the quality of life of all citizens through public spaces. They focus on professionalising and linking the emerging industry of urban parks in Mexico through education and creation of public policies related to its axes of action.

Luis Romahn, President and Director General of ANPR México said:

“We are certain this certification will invite our parks to push their limits and an encouragement to be better; professionalize their processes, and improve their facilities. At the end of the day, what we are looking for is to have better parks to bring more recreation opportunities to our communities and enhance their quality of life”

In 2018, during the 1st International Congress of Urban Parks held in Mexico, ANPR México and World Resources Institute (WRI Mexico) called on more than 35 organisations to sign their 2025 Agenda, which set out a mission to:

"build a shared vision and promote a set of lines of action to advance towards an urban and social transformation based on the strengthening of public space, recognizing its strategic relevance to improve the social fabric, habitability and competitiveness of our cities."

The organisation is also due to extend their presence on the international stage by hosting a 3rd international congress of urban parks in 2020 in the city of León, Guanajuato.

International Development Manager for the Green Flag Award - Carl McClean said:

“We are very excited to be partnering with La Asociación Nacional de Parques y Recreación de México to deliver the  Green Flag Award in Mexico. ANPR México are a really forward thinking and innovative organisation, dedicated to improving the sector and the benefits parks and green spaces bring to local communities”
