Easy Access to Historic Landscapes

Historic parks, gardens and landscapes are valued for their beauty, diversity and historical significance. Millions of people visit them every year but many others feel unable to enjoy these special places to the full. Improving access is a key way of helping everyone to understand, value, care for and enjoy this irreplaceable legacy.

The aim of this guide is to help property owners and managers provide easier access for all their visitors, whatever their age or level of ability. It will also be of value to designers, planners, and others working to open up historic sites to a
wider audience.

About Green Heritage Site Accreditation

Green Heritage Site Accreditation is awarded to green spaces that are managed to Green Flag Award standards and also actively understand, identify, manage and promote the elements of their heritage that make that site unique. A Green Heritage Site must also hold the Green Flag Award (although it is possible to apply for both even in the first year).

Please contact the Green Flag Award team here if you are interested in applying: www.greenflagaward.org/contacts/
